14 year old boy rapes 9 year old girl to death in Ikorodu
From Punch
The police in Lagos State have commenced investigation into how a nine-year-old girl died, after sustaining injuries caused by alleged consistent rape. According to police authorities, the deceased was raped over five times, by a 14-year-old student, Onyi Adimabua, in the Ikorodu area of the state.
The father of the deceased, Simeon Jigo, told Punch Metro that Onyi is the son of the proprietor of the school his daughter attended. He said his daughter opened up about the rape when she started having medical problems. The 77-year-old man said his daughter died on October 3, 2013.
He said, "Up until my daughter's death, she was a pupil of Fulfilled Greenland School, Ikorodu, and she was in primary three. One day, she came home and started complaining of pains around her vagina, stomach area. We rushed her to Ikorodu General Hospital.
"A doctor checked her and after conducting some tests on her, told us that my daughter had sustained medical complications due to forced sexual intercourse. I was alarmed by this; so, I had a private discussion with my daughter.
"She told me that it was her school proprietor's son, Onyi, that had been raping her. The boy had threatened to kill her if she ever told anyone about it."
The indigene of Ondo State told PUNCH Metro that after initial treatments, he took his daughter to Arogbo in Ondo State to be taken care of but her condition continued to deteriorate.
A few days after the troubled father travelled to Ondo State, Onyi, accompanied by his parents, also travelled to Ondo State, to apologise to Jigo's family. The girl, however, was said to have died that very day.
"On getting to the house where my where my daughter was, we discovered that she was dead. Onyi confessed that he had been raping my daughter prior to her death,' Jigo said.
PUNCH Metro learnt that after the girl's demise, irate youths in the area attempted to lynch the 14-year-old boy.
The bereaved father was said to have intervened and reported the matter to a nearby police station, where the teenager was held for safe keeping. The next morning, Onyi and his parents travelled back to Lagos.
The alleged rapist's parents, in company with a chief in Ikorodu, reportedly visited Jigo when he returned to Lagos. The group were said to have pleaded that the bereaved father should not pursue the case but he refused.
Jigo said, "I went to the Ikorodu Police station to report the case but was surprised when the policemen on duty said I should not write any statement. They only told me to write down my telephone number and said they would call me later.
"After waiting for many days without any call, I wrote a petition and the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba."
It was however learnt that Onyi had been taken to his father's hometown in Delta State thereby stalling police investigation.
The teenager's parents, however described the incident as the handiwork of the devil.
The 14-year-old boy's father, Andrew Adimabua, said, "I trained that boy in the way of the Lord and expected so much from him. He has confessed to the act; there is nothing to hide. He told me that he learnt about sex by watching blue (pornographic) films.
"We are not hiding him and we will cooperate with the police. On the day the little girl died, he was beaten up and made to stay in the rain for hours. As a result, he contracted pneumonia so we sent him home for treatment. When he recovers, he'll be taken to the police for questioning."
Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone, expressed shock at the development.
Braide said Onyi would be re-arrested in the course of investigation.
"It is appalling that a teenager could indulge in such act. The matter is under investigation and the culprit will be re-arrested."

Nollywood Actress Mina Tells The Story of How Her Cousin Snatched Her Boyfriend
Below is what the actress told Encomium about the worst betrayal of her life...
"My first cousin and my ex betrayed me. The whole story is complicated. She dated my boyfriend and married him. I had no idea what was going on until they were about to get married because she was pregnant for him. I did not introduce him to her. She knew him. He was my Uncle's best man and we were in the bridal train. He met us together and went after me.
"We had a relationship for some years, two years at a stretch, then it became off and on and all those times she knew. She was even engaged to someone else at the time. Unknown to me she 'worked' her NYSC down to Lagos to have my boyfriend. She was living with him and it didn't make any sense to me. Until later on, I found out they were getting married.
"What pained me most and the worst part of it was when I got to hear about it and confronted him, he said he can never do anything with my sister.and there you are getting her pregnant and marrying her. It got all messed up. This happened in September 2012. I haven't forgiven them. I don't think I ever will"
Please, Mina just forgive and move on....you REAL man will come!

Student Breaks Unilorin Record, Gets First Class In Law
If you call him a jinx breaker, you are not far from the truth. The reason is that many students had tried to graduate from the University of Ilorin with a first class degree in Law for many years, but they failed for one reason or the other. Finally, on Tuesday, however, Abiodun Kazeem achieved the feat, drawing accolades from many people.
Kazeem studied Common and Islamic Law at the institution, which became a full fledged university in 1976. Achieving this feat, according to him, is something he will always cherish. But he never forgets to note that his march through the system was a tough one.
For instance, he recalls that he did not get admission into the university on a platter of gold. He sat for the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board's examination twice, in the course of which some of his friends tried to convince him to forget about applying again.
"The first time I sat for JAMB was in 2007," Kazeem says. "I did not get the cut-off point. But I was bent on studying law. So, in 2008, I obtained the JAMB form and sat for the examination the second time. I was successful this time around."
Between 2007 and 2008, he worked with one of his uncles, Mr. Tahiru Adeosun, who has a law firm in Ilorin. While the experience might have influenced his academic strides on campus, from his first day in the institution, he had his mind set on obtaining first class degree. Yet, some of his colleagues tried again to discourage him. They reminded him that no one had ever achieved that feat in the institution as far as the faculty was concerned. But he remained resolute.
He says, "From the day I entered the university, I wanted to make a first class. I thought that my experience in my uncle's law firm could be used to optimise my ability. But some of the challenges I had have to do with the issue that nobody had made it. Some of my colleagues who noted that I was so focused on my studies discouraged me. Many of them said, 'You can never have it. You do not need to disturb yourself.'''
Twenty-six-year-old Kazeem, who hails from Iganna in Oyo State, says he is from a polygamous home. His father, Muideen, has 12 children. His mother, Mulika, gave birth to six of them. He states that settling for Law in the higher institution was largely due to the influence of his uncle.
Perhaps, he could have read Mass Communication and not Law. According to him, his nickname in secondary school was Mr. Mass Communication, due to his writing skills and gift of oration.
He recounts his days at Community Grammar School, Iganna. "I decided to read Law because my uncle, a lawyer, inspired me. I wanted to study Mass Communication. I was very eloquent and I was in the Press Club in the secondary school. But when I got to my uncle's chamber, he influenced and inspired me to read Law. I never dreamt of becoming a lawyer," he says.
Beaming with excitement and a sense of accomplishment, Kazeem adds that this feat is an honour for his generation and his people in Oyo State.
For now, he is preparing for the Law School, after which he will choose between three directions he has envisioned for himself. He hopes to become a lecturer, to inspire young people, practise Law or participate in politics, either actively or passively.
Kazeem is one of the 41 graduands from various faculties in the university who bagged first class degrees at the ceremony, with 1,088 making second class upper; 2,435 had second class lower. In the third class degree category are 1,082 students and 214 had ordinary Pass.

TRUE STORY: How This Lady Was Forced To Make Love With A Dog & A Horse for Money
Some girls have greatly benefited just by using the internet to find their dream marriages or relationships. Others have fallen into traps in the West and wish they would never have known what the internet was. This is the case of one Cameroonian,Elvire Axelle Tchamakoua. Continue.......
SEE HOW IT ALL HAPPEN....
Axelle is pr00stit-te who is pimped to various men by her main man Jean Claude(French Businessman). She did not mind serving her customers from the front or from behind. The use of condoms during her encouters was the allowed as it brings more money to the table for her and her main man.She has been doing this job for quite a while and was used to this. The shocking part of it is that,Axelle is a 24 year old girl with a Formal Training Certificate in Esthetics and Beauty. Why a young lady in her age would wish for fast cash is the question many people are asking.
According to report Axelle met her pimping Boss,Jean Claude on the Internet in October 2011.They had a normal chat like every other person would have when chatting with a stranger. Jean Claude told her he was a Businessman based in Marseille (frence)and was into import and export. Axelle who thought she had found the love of her life continued her communication with Jean Claude Fayard and on March 2012 he came to visit her in Cameroon. There was a huge celebration at Axelle´s Aunt´s Residence at Santa Barbara in Yaounde. Two days in Cameroon,Jean Claude proposed to Axelle and got married to her in both traditional and Legal Ceremonies. Both marriages took place on the 18th and 20th of March 2012 respectively.
Jean Claude made all traveling arrangements and the both of them flew to France on the 21 of March that same year.He even gave Axelle´s family the sum of 600.000FCFA for their up keep. Not knowing that they were selling their daughter into s3x slavery, the family happily bid the couple goodbye as they left for France.
The truth of the matter was that Jean Claude is a pimp who goes to Africa and picks up girls to come and work as s3x slaves for him in France. Since Axelle did not know about this, she would wish she never used the internet in her life.As the couple arrived France, they lived in a town called Clermont Ferrand for about 9 months after which they moved to a new place called Lourdes. It is in this place that Axelle had the worst experience of her life.
A few days after their arrival to Lourdes,a man knocks on the door saying he wants to see Jean Claude.Little did Axelle know that,he would be her first client who had already paid into her husband´s bank account. When Axelle called her husband´s attention to the guest, she was shocked when her husband told her to do whatever the guest tells her to do.
A few days later after coming home from work,Jean Claude sits Axelle and laid down the rules and regulations of the job.He told her she has to pay back all the money he spent on her in Cameroon. He calculated the amount to be more than 3,000 euros and she will also be working for him for the next two years. Axelle who became speechless thought she was dreaming. It was worse when Jean Claude collected her personal belongings and all her documents. She was also prohibited from making any calls to the outside world. Every day she had male customers who would come for her service taking her from front and behind all the time. She was mandated to do whatever they wanted. They would not use any protection during intercourse. One day Jean Claude came home with a customer accompanied by a dog.The man whose name is Loiseau had deposited some money into Jean Claude´s account. Axelle who didn't see this coming was pushed into the room and forced to have s3x with the dog which she did. It is said that Jean Claude made more money when Axelle sleeps with an animals so these deals became the order of the day.
After her encounter with the dog, Jean Claude left with Mr Loiseau leaving Axelle alone in the house. After numerous trials, she broke down the door and ran into the street where she met a Cameroonian couple living in the town. They helped her to get to the Embassy where she narrated her ordeal. The Police was immediately dispatched to Jean Claude´s house where they found evidences linking him to kidnapping and other serious allegations. Jean Claude was immediately arrested and is waiting for judgement.Meanwhile Axelle flew back to Cameroon and was immediately taken to the hospital for further examinations and treatments.
See what the Internet can do to the youths of a country. all that glitters are not Gold, my dear brothers and sisters. If some of you could hear the stories of some Africans in the Diaspora, you will not envy them at all. After everything, home is the best even when our government and politicians fail us.What do you guys think.I need your contributions.

32-yr-old man butchers uncle over destiny manipulation
The crime was allegedly committed at Nsokkara Community in Ezza South Local Government Area of the state over claims that the deceased was diabolically manipulating Ugbo's destiny.
The suspect allegedly lured his victim to a lonely farmland near a neighbouring community in Amagu, under the guise of showing him (the victim) a piece of land he wanted to purchase.
He reportedly inflicted 27 cuts on late Mr. Nwite in the early hours of Saturday, unaware that some people saw him.
Vanguard gathered that the suspect was caught by the villagers at Igweledoha Nsokkara community, when he was packing his luggage to flee the community.
It was also learnt that the suspect, a trader resident at Owerri in Imo State, was said to have returned home on Friday night with the intention of killing his uncle.
Eyewitnesses' story
An eyewitness, Nweke Nwankwo, alleged that the act took place in a vegetable farmland.
The witness said: "I was on top of a palm tree harvesting fruits and saw both of them conversing. I never suspected anything because they were relatives.
"But I felt cold to the spine when the boy started brutalising the old man, who recently returned from the hospital after an eye surgery."
Another witness, a woman who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated that she was weeding in her farm, some distance from the scene, when she heard a cry.
She said: "I did not know that an abomination was being committed because the loud shout was just once.
"I continued with my job until passers-by, who first sighted the dead body, raised alarm."
It was learnt that a white T-shirt, which an eyewitness claimed the suspect wore that morning, was brought out from his room with blood stains.

Another Plane Crash Averted In Abuja - Medview Airline
Puch reports that the airline Flight VL2104 which had about 150 passengers on board took off from the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos at noon and was scheduled to land in Abuja at about 1.05pm.
The pilot had already announced final descent into Abuja and asked all passengers and cabin crew to fasten their seat belts only for him to suddenly take off to the air again with barely 30 seconds to touch ground.
Definitely, his action caused big panic, commotion among the passengers who bursted into prayers, yells to know what was happening, especially when the plane entered into turbulent weather on air.
The PUNCH correspondent who was among the passengers while telling his story, said that among the passengers were five different complete families.
One of the passengers, a nursing mother, who was breastfeeding her son at the time the pilot took off again withdrew the breast from the boy's mouth and started praying profusely while the baby's cry rented the air.
It wasn't until after about three minutes of gaining altitude, the pilot announced that he had decided to take off again to avoid colliding with an aircraft that was on ground.
According to the pilot, after he had been granted clearance to land, it was later discovered that the other aircraft was not fast enough, hence his decision to take off.
The aircraft hovered for another 20 minutes in the air before finally landing at about 1:30pm.
When the plane finally landed, the passengers struggled to disembark.
"Are you still sitting down? Let me rush down in case it will suddenly take off again," a middle-aged man was heard asking one of his co-passengers.

REVEALED: The Town Where Men Don’t Use Condóm In Lagos, Nigeria
Like Huese, many Egun people in Makoko, as well as Oko-Agbon and Ago-Egun communities in Yaba Local Council Development Area, Lagos, do not like using condóms due to their long held traditional belief in the old practice of coitus interruptus, also known as the withdrawal or pull-out method during séxual intercourse.
For centuries, this has been used as a method of birth control worldwide.
The history is not lost on the Egun people whose forefathers migrated from neighbouring Francophone West African countries like Togo and Benin Republic, as well as from Badagry, Lagos. This age old practice has been transferred to the current generation, where most of the people speak their local Egun dialect and sometimes French. Their major occupations are fishing and farming. Only a few understand English and the residents, whose maj live in wooden shacks built on murky waters oozing with an unpleasant odour.
"The use of condóm means nothing for us here as Egun people. We don't like using condóms because we know ourselves, both women and men; we don't go outside or sleep around. It's those people who go outside sleeping with different people that contact such diseases like HIV," said Lowato Luke, one of the traditional chiefs in the area.
Luke, who has two wives and 12 children, gleefully boasted that he had mastered the withdrawal method and understands his wives' ovulation cycles. "I know the particular times to have séx with my wives, even if they are breastfeeding and I want to have séx with them, I know how to do it to prevent another pregnancy," he said. Like Huese, he also claimed that his wives enjoy the séx more than he does. "But if you use condóm, it won't be that enjoyable. I have never used a condóm," he noted.
It is the same case with Kirianko Goi, in his 40s. "I don't believe in the use of condóm because I never heard that from my father. It's not for me to say whether I will advise my children to use condóm or not. If the young boys and girls want to have séx, they won't tell you. This generation is clearly different from that of my father and mine. But if I'm in a position to do so, I will advise them, it is my duty to advise them," he said.
Goi's nephews, two young men in their 20s, one married and the other unmarried, giggled intermittently during their uncle's brief condóm talk. But they declined comments when asked if they use condóms during séx.
Many of the men who spoke to our correspondent in the community expressed their aversion to the use of condóms during séxual intercourse and were insistent that their women enjoyed it that way.
Twenty-five-year-old Bernadette Sato, who has two children, agreed. She does not like condóm. "We don't like using condóm. But if we don't want to get pregnant, we know how to do it by ourselves; it pays us more that way, because we don't like using condóm. I was told in a hospital in Cotonou, Benin Republic, where I gave birth to my first child, that people who don't want to get pregnant can use condóm. Sometimes, I use a family planning drug before and after séx with my husband to prevent pregnancy," she said, noting that many of her friends also don't like condóms, while some claimed it could bring about disease. "I don't know the type of disease, but I just don't like condóm during séx," she added.
Pipi Olorunwa, who has been married for 12 years and has six children, gave an insight into the female perspective. She said: "Although there is no official report that says condóm is bad; personally, I don't like it because God did not create it. Those who created it did so because of the level of immorality in the world today so that they can enjoy themselves. There are several methods to avoid pregnancy. A couple can have séx without the wife conceiving.
"I also don't like the chemical and odour from condóm because I believe the chemicals used in preserving the condóm could cause problems and is harmful to the body. Although I didn't get the information from a medical expert, but everybody does according to their belief. I don't use any drug either to prevent pregnancy. I just do it the natural way with my husband."
"We don't use need it or any other contraceptive because we understand how to do child spacing,'' noted the head of the traditional chiefs in the area, 55-year-old Mr. Francis Agoyon Alashe. When probed further, he gave a timeline of the spacing among some of his 14 children as proof. It showed a two or three-year gap among them. "My children are well spaced. Some of them, including the twins, were born in 1984, 1986 and 1989. I stopped having children in 2003," he explained, adding that he still had séx with his wives during those period without childbirth because he had 'planned it carefully with the withdrawal method.'
"Of course, the woman enjoys it. It's a matter of agreement between the man and the woman. We don't like using condóms as such because we want flesh to meet flesh. If a man is too anxious during séx, he will release on time, but if he can control his excitement, he can take longer minutes," he explained.
According to Agoyon, the use of condóms could even have 'negative effects.' "We believe using condóm could bring disease on its own. This could happen when the sperm goes back into the manhood. We call it 'foon'. Then, to urinate will be very difficult," he said
However, a medical doctor, Dr. Kareem Jamiu, punctured holes in Agoyon's statement. "That's not true. It's not medically possible. But there is what is called 'retrograde ***********', where the sperm goes backwards to the bladder instead of forward. Normally, when a man wants to release, the bladder neck closes so that the sperm can easily flow forward. But if the bladder neck muscles are weak or relaxed, then it means there is a problem. Some causes of retrograde ***********s are complications from diabetes, a malfunctioning bladder sphincter, as well as some STDs. But in a normal male, the bladder neck is normally so tight and so the sperm cannot go back," explained Jamiu, who once worked with the Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières during their intervention programme in Makoko, Oddo and Badia communities in Lagos State.
The MSF team, comprised foreign doctors supported by Nigerian medical staff, worked in these areas for over two years and established a health centre, until they left in 2012.
Despite the lack of information, knowledge, and awareness about the consequences of unprotected séx, there is a general low rate of STDs and HIV/AIDS in the Makoko communities, noted Jamiu, who confirmed to our correspondent that the people in the communities really don't like using condóms.
He said: "We tried talking with them but it was difficult getting the message across to them. When you tell them about it, they just laugh about it and say they will try.
"From our experience with them, their way of preventing pregnancy is coitus interruptus. Most of the males that had STDs patronised traditional healers, while the females sometime came for treatment, although the rate of STDs or HIV/AIDS was not as widespread as feared. I don't think there was any difference between the rates in Makoko when compared with the general population or with people who live in different settings. Sometimes, there were 11 cases of HIV in a month, sometimes 12. The community also recorded low figures in malaria and cholera cases," he explained."We have special herbs to cure STDs like gonorrhoea and other types of diseases," said Huese. "It is an Egunsecret," Agoyon replied when probed about it.
This surprising trend may be due to what is medically termed 'herd immunity', Jamiu noted. "When a group of people are exposed to something too frequently, they tend to develop a general immunity to it," he explained.
According to Vaccines Today, an online publication, "Herd immunity is a form of immunity that occurs when the vaccination of a significant portion of a population (or herd) provides a measure of protection for individuals who have not developed immunity."
"I think that's what happened in Makoko. The rates of diseases were not really as bad as envisaged, Jamiu said.
Another medical doctor who worked with MSF, Dr. Valentina Edoro, echoed Jamiu's words. "There were isolated cases of STDS, but not high. The number was not something that needed any special intervention. When the women came for family planning; we found out that they don't discuss it with their husband. We needed to bring the men on board during discussions on family planning, but it came about much later when we were about rounding off the project," she said. Edoro added that many of the men in Makoko said they didn't enjoy séx with condóms because they believed it decreased the pleasure during séx.
However, she pointed out that the withdrawal method may not necessarily be effective in preventing pregnancies and STDs. "This is because the pre-*********** fluid from a man's man-hood may contain sperm, which means that the man may still has enough sperm to make a woman pregnant," she said, noting that the women were less conservative about family planning than the men.
"Surprisingly we also discovered that their children were healthy and they breastfed for longer time, malnutrition was not a problem. Yes, they had a lot of chest infections because of their environment and they smoke. But they were healthy, despite their environment. I was also surprised about the low rate of STDs because they don't protect themselves with condóms. They don't marry outside the community, I don't know if that is a factor," she noted.Conservatism, illiteracy, lack of awareness, traditional beliefs, environmental factors, high risk séxual behaviour and poverty may be some reasons for the widespread practice of unsafe séx among people in the community. There is also a high rate of teenage pregnancy there.
Their claims asides, SUNDAY PUNCH gathered from some of the residents that, despite their marital status, a few of them still had séxual affairs outside the community.
"Today, girls are getting pregnant more and giving birth. Séx is more common in Makoko among the young boys and girls. They like it. All they know in this settlement is séx. You see young girls of 13, 14 years, who have had séx. And when they are brought to the elders, they would claim that they are husband and wife. We deliberated some cases last Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. We had cases of r*pe in the past but it is very rare. Nowadays, some of these young girls spend their mothers' profits from her trade to get boys to have séx with them," Agoyon said. Most times, a traditional marriage ceremony is quickly conducted between these young, consenting lovers. It doesn't cost much to have one in Makoko, a traditional wedding ceremony could cost between N10,000 and N150,000, Agoyon said.
This developing trend may change the status quo in the community in terms of population growth and rates of STDS.
This is the more reason why, beyond the changing perspectives, Jamiu said people in communities such as Makoko needed more enlightenment about the use of contraceptives such as condóms, considering the social and economic effects such population increase in slums areas would have on the country.
According to recent World Bank statistics, Nigeria, with a population of over 160 million where majority live on less than $2 a day, has the seventh highest birth rate in the world. The report stated that Nigerian women give birth to an average of six children within their childbearing years.
"Their educational awareness and knowledge of contraceptives is very poor in Makoko. I can't comment on how it works for them. But if the communities can be provided with standard education, it will help change their mentality and way of life, because you can't dislodge them from there. That's where they are comfortable to live in. It's more of a rudimentary life. They have some brilliant children where during interaction with them, you know they can be better. Education is what they need,'' he noted.
Although the older generation still holds strongly to the séxual practice of their forefathers, the younger generation of Egun people seem to be drifting away with the current of modern times, while in the murky waters surrounding their communities.
Remi Goka, in his 30s, who was evasive about his marital status, said he used condóms whenever he was with his girlfriends. Like he put it, he didn't know if they had other séxual relationships outside. "But I go for tests regularly. I have many of my friends who use condóms," he said.
His friends, whose ages ranged from 18 to 30; Hunkarin, Yomlomnun Monday, Keyebo Richard and Djisou Honsou, who had his name tattooed on his arm, all agreed. They all use condóms also. Goka agreed that séx among young people was now a common way of life in the community.
"Yes, there is a difference between my generation and the older one because we are more enlightened about the issues. We have a larger population now. It's a thing of choice,'' he noted.
With an increasing population, especially of women and children, poverty, poor living conditions, lack of education and basic infrastructure and services, the increasing rate of unprotected séx in Makoko communities is a worrying trend, especially as the general dislike for cóndoms hasn't changed much with the younger generation.
"They live in a kind of cocoon. For them, it's a way of life. The men go for fishing; the women go to the market and come back. From what I have observed, there are no special values being handed over. So, it goes on like a cycle. The young boys grow up to impregnate their women and it just goes on and on," Edoro noted.

BankyW Tells His Grass To Grace Story: ‘I Begged To Sell CDs In US Salons To Survive’
In a chat with with Vanguard, BankyW shared his story - how he moved from being an undergraduate begging for audience at salons in the United States, to building a musical empire that has produced internationally acclaimed artistes like Skales and Wizkid.
Excerpts:
"Everybody knows me to be the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of EME, but what people do not know is that EME started when I was in my third year in university in New York.
You see, we all dream dreams, but it is important to think very big and start where you are because God never gives you everything but gives you enough to start.
At that time, I knew I wanted to do music, but of course I understood nobody starts by selling a million CDs or the big screen!
I worked in fast foods outlets, clothing stores and as a knife salesman, selling knives from door to door. That way, I gathered money to pay for studio recording time. I was recording with a close friend at that time.
After making that music, we printed a thousand CDs though we didn't have any fan. I had one battered car that broke down virtually everywhere, so, we would print black and white posters, stick them on the sides of the car, sell from the car's trunk and drive to salons to do marketing.
We would walk to the owners of the salons, greet politely, and ask them to let us entertain their customers. Sometimes, some would kick us out and sometimes some would say yes. If told yes, after singing for a minute or two, we would sell our CDs to the customers! That was the beginning!
A lot of people see you on stage and see the success but do not know what you had to go through! I never had one really big break; it was always two steps forward and a couple backwards.
But I just decided that I was going to make music work for me. That was why I moved on to a new salon each time any salon rejected me!
I just kept going because I believe failure is when you give up. Albert Einstein said he tried a hundred times to make the light bulb. When he was asked what kept him going during the 99 times, he said: 'I didn't consider those 99 times as failure; rather, I considered them 99 ways that it didn't work!'
We went about selling CDs and, on the days we couldn't sell much, we would sit down and be broke together. I remember my friend was a member of a church that usually served food after service. So, on the days we didn't sell CDs and were too broke to buy food, we would attend service in that church so we could pack rice and store in the fridge.
At a point, being a student of industrial engineering, I was working for an engineering company and was recording as well. I would go to work from 7am till about 2pm and then go to school till about 8pm, and then drive two and a half hours to New York City where the studio that would let us record for less was, and record until about 2am.
I would then drive two and a half hours back home to be back at work at 7am the following day.
One day, I was driving home from work and was so tired that I fell asleep while on a bridge. I would have driven off from the top of the bridge to God knows where, if not for an on-going construction work. God really saved me!"
After a while, Banky's hard work began to pay off and, even while in school, he began winning awards, beginning with the 'Albany Idol' competition. Other international awards soon followed.
In 2008 when he decided to move to Nigeria after the completion of one of his albums, Mr Capable, Banky was consistently told his genre of music 'would never appeal to Nigerians and therefore wouldn't 'sell'.
As he got turned down, pressure mounted on him and his manager to change their genre of music but Banky strongly held on to another long-standing principle which had taught him to stand out by being unique rather than trying to imitate anyone's skill.
He therefore insisted on sticking to R&B, and this paid-off as he soon became a household name in the Nigerian entertainment industry!
Banky's advice:
"You cannot say enough about the grace of God and I therefore do not want to claim any form of glory. Falling down is inevitable but getting back up is optional!
Frankly, you can't appreciate sunshine if you've never been through a heavy rain. Yes, life is tough, but what do you do in those tough moments?
Do you learn the lesson, stand up again, consider yourself stronger and keep going? Or do you sit down and feel sorry for yourself?
The graveyard, they say, is the richest place in the world because therein lies so many who died with their dreams. So, my advice is, do not give up! If Banky can be where he is today, you can be where you want to be if you put to mind to it."

Electricity Workers Threaten Nationwide Blackout If FG Doesn't End ASUU Strike In 7 Days
Ajaero who was speaking during the opening of a training workshop organized for labour leaders in Enugu, threatened to ally with other unions across the country to join ASUU on a solidarity stike if the impasse persists.
Ajaero said government was being insensitive to the plight of Nigerian students because the children of the rich are studying outside the country.
He said:
"If ASUU issue is not addressed, we will shut this country alongside other unions. We will ally with other unions and make sure that nothing works in this country.
This is not a strike based on demand, it's based on agreement. As government, you must honour your agreement. Here, there's no social security, the price of food is high, the same goes for electricity tariff. We are going to join our children to stay at home and let them run the system," he threatened.

Being Sexy Not About Big Backside — Mercy Johnson
I am Mercy Johnson, an actress. I was born 29 years ago and I am the fourth child in a family of seven. My father is an ex-military officer and I left my mother at the age of two to live with him. Due to the nature of his job, he was constantly transferred from one station to another. I am proud of him because he taught me all I needed to know from childhood to adulthood.
Movie industry
I have grown with time and there have been good and bad times. There have been rumours and scandals. Sometimes, when I cry in movies, it wasn't the script that made me cry. Rather, I reflect on my humble beginning and the height I've attained now. This makes me cry.
Journey into acting
After my secondary school education, I approached a friend for assistance to feature in a movie. He took me to the National Theatre, Lagos, but a role did not come until a year later. My first lead role was in a film titled, 'The Maid.' It was quite challenging to interprete because it was my first movie. When I saw the veterans on set, I fidgeted.
A star actress
Life is in phases and I cannot say I have reached the peak of my profession. I have not even won an Oscar yet! There is always a higher mountain to climb, a new vision to fulfill and I am at that point. I want to achieve new and greater dreams.
Fulfillment
The greatest fulfillment is the ability to influence people positively through my acting.
Challenges
Life is not a bed of roses; it comes with challenges which make me stronger and who I am.
Nollywood: Then and now
We have achieved feats which the old Nollywood did not achieve. It is all about progression and I am sure that in the future, Nollywood will achieve a greater feat than it is doing currently.
Relationship
My husband is loving and he is an understanding man. I am so happy to be married to him. I acted a movie, 'Baby Oku in America' when I was heavily pregnant and he didn't feel bad about it. He understands that I am an actor and sometimes, we need real life situations, like the pregnancy, to interpret a role. Not many men would allow their wife do that.
Scandals
They are all lies. I just think the media needs to do their verification well before they put any story out. Whenever I read all manner of lies about me in the media, I wonder where all of these came from and regret being an actor. But in all, I move on and take it as one of the hazards of the job. I am fulfilled as an actor.
Mercy Johnson Foundation
I floated the foundation because of my love for the less privileged. One of my greatest joys is to see other people happy. I want to make lasting impact in my society. The objective is to identify the needs of the less privilege, evaluate them and help in our own little way. I strongly believe that as movie stars, we should live beyond the euphoria of stardom.
A sexy woman
It is inbuilt. It's just how you feel about yourself. For me, being sexy is confidence. It mustn't be about the hairstyle or the accessories or the big buttocks. It's about you, liking yourself just the way you are.
Motherhood
My husband is a wonderful man. He makes my job easier and helps carry our daughter, Purity. He feeds her and she misses him whenever he is not around. As a family, we understand one another and we make whatever adjustments we have to make in order to have a good home.
Success
The challenges I faced have yielded results and I am reaping the fruits of all my efforts. I have grown from nobody in the industry to becoming a top actress from Africa. To God be all the glory.
To be an actress
Talent is never enough you must constantly brush up your talent but training can come in different form. You only need to ensure that in whatever form, you are not just relying on your inborn talent.
Projects
There are many but I'm not permitted to disclose them yet. They will start unfolding soon.
Fear
My worst fear will be to leave this earth without making a huge impact.
Fashion
I don't wear what is in vogue or what everybody is wearing, I just wear what suits me and I'm lucky to have a physique that encourages everything I wear. My husband is a huge critic, so when he pays compliments to my dressing, I feel so good. He doesn't believe that exposing anything makes you look better. He feels when you cover up, you look real nice.
To upcoming actors
Be yourself and let your talent speak for you. Don't come into the industry because you want to be famous, but because you love the art of acting. Then try to appreciate those who were there before you.

Scientists Find Gold Particles On Eucalyptus Plants In Australia - Science/Technology
Australia based researchers found the gold particles hidden within eucalyptus tree foliage, indicating that gold deposits may also be buried many metres below.
The grains growing within the leaves are approximately one fifth the diameter of a human hair, making the discovery unlikely to start a gold rush. However, it can provide a unique opportunity for mineral exploration.
Geochemists from Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRPO) said eucalyptus trees in western Australia are drawing up gold particles from the earth via their root system and depositing it their leaves and branches.
Although the amounts found were tiny, their presence could indicate gold ore deposits buried up to tens of metres underground and under sediments that are up to 60 million years old.
Lead author of the study, Dr Mel Lintern, said the team used CSIRO's Maia detector, a machine that uses x-rays to probe matter in great detail, to search for gold deposits. They were able to produce images of gold found in the leaves, bark and twigs of some of the trees.
Their research, published in the journal Nature Communications, suggested plants were absorbing gold particles found around the soils of eucalyptus trees, Dr Lintern explained.
"The eucalypt acts as a hydraulic pump – its roots extend tens of metres into the ground and draw up water containing the gold.
"As the gold is likely to be toxic to the plant, it's moved to the leaves and branches where it can be released or shed to the ground.
"The leaves could be used in combination with other tools as a more cost effective and environmentally friendly exploration technique."
Dr Lintern added that by using this technique of sampling and analysing vegetation for traces of minerals, it may be easier to observe what occurs below the surface without the need to drill. He said: "It's a more targeted way of searching for minerals that reduces costs and impact on the environment.

Mikel Obi Getting Ready To Marry Rita Dominic?
Recently there was a photo of both of them in London. Rita was said to have run into Mikel and the two posed for a snapshot.
This got tongues wagging as to how the two could accidentally ran into each other being that many Nollywood celebrities have been in London without running into anyone let alone Mikel who has a tight schedule.
However, sources claim that the duo do not seem to be just normal friends as pictures of them hanging out in different places have been seen and it's not just the pictures but the kind of intimacy shown in the pictures.
According to one of Mikel's aides, he was sent to go scout for good expensive ring. He also made it clear that Mikel hasn't been known with so many women, so all fingers point at Rita Dominic. He also flew alone to Abuja immediately after the Sunday game, and he has been sighted with Rita two times afterwards.
Recall that the actress recently claimed in an interview that the media destroyed her past relationships and would because of that not flaunt her 'lover' before the media at the moment.

Zimbabwe's Mr Ugly 2012, William Masvinhu Wins Mr Ugly 2013 |Photo
And once again, Masvinu walked away with the title of the ugliest man in Harare Zimbabwe on Friday night at the City Sports Bar.
The competition which pits a group of 'aesthetically challenged' men against each other in a contest to win the title of 'Mr Ugly Harare' was first held in 2011 and although it received a lot of criticism at the time it has since gained more popularity.
This year the participants were reportedly rewarded with overalls, safety shoes and rain coat.
The first runner up, Benny Chakanyuka also received US$100 (N16,000) while the second runner up Funny Musekiwa walked away with US$50 (N8000) and groceries.
Along with the crown and prize money, the grand prize winner also won a year's school fees for one of his children, a prize his wife was very happy about.
Speaking to Allafrica.com about the preparation process he went for the contests, Masvinu said no preparation was needed because it all came naturally for him.
"My ugliness comes naturally to me and although I did a bit to prepare for the show, I let them do the rest," he was quoted saying.
"A bit of choreography together with his funny clothing helped him on stage but it was all minimum effort," his manager, Michael Gundo, said.

ASUU Strike Will Be Over ‘In a Few Months’ - Minister of Education
Minister of Education, Mr Nyesom Wike stated this at the anniversary lecture of National Universities Commission, NUC, in Abuja.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Macjohn Nwaobiala, the minister reiterated the Federal Government's commitment to resolving the ongoing strike.
"The Federal Government is very concerned about the state of public tertiary institutions in the country. The Federal Government is really worried about the ongoing strike of ASUU and the strike would be resolved in a few months," Wike said.
In his paper presentation titled, 'Turbulent and Testing Times for Global Higher Education: Lessons for Nigeria', Professor John Daniel said "online teaching and learning is now part of the future of most universities. Nigeria should be very good at this because without embarrassing you by pressing the point, I note that your country, through 419 scams, is a world leader in the use of the internet for less desirable purposes."
According to him, higher education all over the world is facing lot of challenges that included youth unemployment and the current changes in the university system.
"These are indeed turbulent times, not only for United States of America but also for much of higher education globally," he said.
In his goodwill message, a former Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Jubril Munzali, noted that the education sector has been underfunded for 21 years, with the significant increase in the funding of tertiary institutions being done over time, through the struggle of ASUU.
He blamed the Federal Government for the lingering crisis rocking the nation's university system.
According to him, it is high time the Federal Government listened to its agencies and allow NUC perform its statutory role and fund universities based on the advice of its agencies like NUC.
"Successive administrations in the country never paid adequate attention to university education," Munzali said.
