17-YEAR-OLD WARRI ORPHAN WINS ₦120M SHELL UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP

 


At nine years, Master Lucky Ayolu, from Ekeni in Southern Ijaw Local Government of Bayelsa State, lost his dad and mother. suddenly, life became cruel to him as he learnt to fend for himself. He notified our correspondent that he took to fishing to pay for his charges in primary and secondary schools, as his grandmother, who he resided with, did not have sufficient.
However, as somebody who is destined to succeed in life, Ayolu, now 17 years, has become a beneficiary of Shell Petroleum Development Company's overseas scholarship.

The scholarship design, whose annual allowance is about N120m, and organised by Bassan West Cluster Development Board, saw Ayolu as one of the 14 beneficiaries.

Ayolu, who talked to hit Metro, said his life was a testimony that "absolute belief in God and hard work are very significant in life."

He said, "Life has been mean to me. But today, I have every cause to glorify God for raising me up after my fantasy.

"At a issue, I lost wish completely and begun nursing the concept of taking my life. It was so bad that when I heard about this scholarship, I could not raise transport fare to the venue of the examination."

Lucky Ayolu told Naija news.com.ng that one of his kin assisted him financially to get the scholarship pattern and furthermore provided him transport fare from Ekene to Yenagoa where the check took location.

"At the end of the check, I was successful. I am going to read Computer research at Wisconsin University, Ghana. The control and respect has been my lifelong ambition and I am appreciative that God has used my community and case to make the illusion a reality."

He advised other youths in difficult position not to give up, saying that with hard work and believe in God, they would achieve their yearns.

He furthermore urged the authorities at all grades to look into the plight of the orphans in the homeland.

Ex BBA Housemate talks about her relationship with Angelo and her experience in the Big Brother house.

24 hours after she arrived Nigeria, BBA The Chase finalist Beverly Osu was rushed to Faith City Hospital, Oju Olobun Close, off Bishop Oluwole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The BBA star was admitted for treatment due to a sprain ankle she suffered in the BBA house, a day to the finale.

For 91 days, the video vixen entertained Africa with so many tales of her life experiences and of course, the widely condemned sexual encounter that resulted from an in-house love affair between her and another housemate, Angelo Collins

The one question everybody wanted to know was why she succumbed to her sexual urges and having sex with the South African while the entire continent watched.

'I did not have sex in the house, I never had sex in the house. I had a relationship with Angelo Collins but we didn't have sex. Nothing happened between me and Angelo. Though there were awkward moments, we never had sex. I know what happened then between us but we never got down to have sex', she insists.

Rumour has it that Angelo has a girlfriend, but Beverly doesn't seem to care. 'I don't want to talk about his so called girlfriend because I don't know anything about her'.

Does she see a future in the relationship, she says, 'We talk every day. He loves me and I still love him. I would get married to him if I had the chance.'

Of course on the issue of nudity she says, 'all of us take our baths naked. So I shouldn't be different because I went for a reality show. I shouldn't be different from every other person, because I didn't bring out my videos, Big Brother did so I should not be judged, and I represented Nigeria well'.

Particularly known for her fabulous stories: from abortion to rape to sleeping with men for money and dating musicians, she seems not to regret her actions at all. 'I'm a very open person. Melvin knows, he stayed with me for 91 days. I say what's on my mind, and for me to reveal myself to the world, it didn't look like I was revealing myself to the world', she said, 'I was talking too much, maybe, but I'm on a reality show. I don't regret saying the things that I said about me and my family, because if I have to be on this platform, people have to know the real me and what I've been through.'

As much as she discussed her mom's ugly past on terrestrial television, her mom's love was never lost from her side. 'I can never go out of my way to disgrace and disappoint my mom intentionally. She has lectured me properly. And even if the whole world rejects me, my mom can't reject me. I love my mom so much. I am her only daughter and last born. I've always been there for her and she'll always be there for me.'

Her conduct in the house has been termed an embarrassment to Nigeria as a country, and Beverly apologises, 'I don't feel happy about it since this will be the first time I will be representing Nigeria… I'm sorry for embarrassing my country. I didn't do it intentionally. My participation in the show was not to embarrass my country'.

Was 2shotz the rapper boyfriend Beverly claimed was constantly abusing her? 'No. I wasn't referring to him. For me, 2shots is history. Thank you for reminding me about him.'

She may have lost out on the $300,000 prize money, but she made history by becoming the first BBA contestant that was never nominated for eviction since the inception of the African franchise of the television series in 2003 and for that she says,  'I broke a record… I made Nigeria proud'.

Beverly has come out of the show a celebrity, whether for the right reasons or the wrong, but she is hoping to roll on with the little fame she has achieved. 'Before I left, I had a show called 'Beverly Says' and I'm back to push it. If you guys watched Big Brother, you would be very sure that I can act, so I'd go into movies, but then, I have to finish school because I'm in my 200 level.'

Patricia Etteh Now A Student At The Buckingham University, United Kingdom

 


The first female speaker of the Nigerian house of representative, Patricia Etteh, she's been keeping a low profile following her unceremonious exit from the house of reps.

PUNCH reports that she is now a student at the prestigious Buckingham University, United Kingdom – she is studying law. Incidentally, one of her course mates is the son of the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nuhu Ribadu.

She is said to live in a posh apartment in Milton Keynes from where she commutes to and fro campus.
Etteh had barely spent four months as the then fourth most powerful individual in the country when she was forced to step down from her leadership position of the House following a heated scandal over the renovation of her official residence in October 2007, in which some of her colleagues accused her of alleged involvement in corrupt practice.

ASUU Strike: When will we matter? [Must Read] for All Nigerian Students

Civilization begins when the strong finally realize they have a duty to protect the weak, when the knowledgeable finally realise they have a duty to protect the ignorant; that dutyis the foundation of civilization, the bedrock on which everything else rests.

For decades, we, the people, have abdicated our duties to a few strong men. "Rule us" we say, "and do not steal too much. Do not be too corrupt, do not b soo selfish,do not betray us too much, do not shame us beyond endurance,do not rule us like animals. Protect the weak, the elderly, the helpless, the sick, the young; protect them from those who will prey on them. And protect us. 

If you grant us protection, you may steal a little, enough to be filthy rich as long as you do not rub our faces too much in it. We are giving you care of our numerous resources because we lack the
faith, the strength and the brain power to utilise and manage them properly.

Now there is a new party or should I call it a "coalition" with the sole aim to topple the present administration (of course at an election!) kind of a civilian coup d'état. Not tobetter develop the country, NO! not to find a way to provide better jobs, NO! not seeking to manage our resources profitably, NO!; just to ensure that the ruling party does not produce the winner in the next elections. 

Someone said they are an association of pastcriminals seeking to stop people from deceiving people. Now the two "major" parties are trading words with the new party committing it's first blunder. Of course, the opposition seized the opportunity optimally saying they do not see a presidential candidate among themselves.

I want to say here "categorically" that our duty can no longer be ignored. Our destiny has been delivered into our hands by the Hands that created the universe. We must acknowledge before God and before each other that this nation is ours to write, ours to invent, ours to live and ours to answer for;on earth here and before the throne of heaven on Judgement day.

The future of our families is on our heads, the fate of this people is our responsibility and our destiny. The "e no concern me" attitude of today's youths is disheartening. How many know what is happening in the government, how many care to know? Our leaders do whatever they want without recourse to the people being led.

Nigerian students have to exercise patience biding the time "they" decide to answer "us". Sorry?Who are the  "us"? Did our lecturers even ask what the students feel about their requests? They say they are fighting to improve the standard of higher education in Nigeria. For the love of a good education! How many student
leaders were incorporated in the agreement with the federal government in 2009? But we are inconsequential; as we have always been. The strike in 2009 for 3 months, who were primarily, secondarily andtertiarily affected? Students! The present strike, which group of people is singularly affected? Students! And you sit there facebooking all day, Making jokes about the strike while our lecturers are collecting their salaries, senators are collecting their allowances.

Even the Minister of state on Education is more interested in the Rivers crises than in strike situation. We all campaigned the nation over about the "girl child" situation. Hash tags and DP's proclaimed our outrage at what about 90% of us did not fully understand. Why can't we do the same about the strike? Or we'll just sit here hoping, maybe even praying that the strike will be called off. The "agreement" theyare even talking about, the contents are unknown to "US". But then again, do we matter?
