"Fela Never wore pants on Stage, Please Tell burna Boy" - Seun Kuti

Son of Afro-beat Legend Fela Kuti, Seun Kuti has spoken out about the pant stunt pulled by Burnaboy on stage at the just concluded Felabration (A week long celebration of musical performances in honour of Fela).

He made his comment on his BBM update saying " Nna na wa o. I am bald for christ sake and fela never wore pants on stage. Tell burna that!! "

While we are still not certain on where Burnaboy got this inspiration from, this is the second time a member of the Fela family has slammed a pant- wearing stunt, as Dede, a protege of Fela also criticised an artist trying to depict Fela in pants on stage.

"Wizkid did not perform to empty seats" - Organizers claims

Yankee vehemently claims that the pictures used by some reporters in their stories were actually taken at the earliest part of the show when fans were just arriving, affirming that the report was sponsored by mischief makers, whose interest is to see him disappointing Abuja show lovers.

He said, "I'm sure those journalists did not even stay till the end of the show. The show was "very very" successful. I really don't bother myself about what some people feel or want to say about my event, so long as our business continues to prosper and we keep smiling to the banks. I want to tell you that Wizkid was happy with the turnout, the fans enjoyed the show, they had fun and have confessed to that. They are ever ready to have Wizkid in Abuja again.

Speaking further, Yankee said "those pictures were actually taken by some journalists who had access to the hall before the take-off of the show. I didn't know they were out to blackmail us. I didn't even know how they had access to the conference hall. But I'm not in any way bothered."

He disclosed that over 27 tables were sold at the event, and that a table of 8 was given out between N300, 000 to N500,000. He listed heavy weights who were at the show to include " CEO, Kefiano motors; Timi Frank, PA to Atiku Abubakar; MD, Exclusive Stores, MD, Sungold Estate; Jude Imagwe, SSA to Jonathan on Youths and Students Matters; Mr Jide Asuma, former Director of Silverbird Cinema; Tucano club, club Stormm, FCMB, Mr Danjuma, former local govt of Kuje; Suleiman Ibro, Summerset owner, All clubs in Abuja, Danar Air and a host of others. Yankee said the list is endless, and that he cannot be deterred by those he termed, 'badbelle'.

ASUU Strike Will Be Over ‘In a Few Months’ - Minister of Education

Nigerian students were yesterday assured by the Federal Government that the protracted strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, would be over in a few months.

Minister of Education, Mr Nyesom Wike stated this at the anniversary lecture of National Universities Commission, NUC, in Abuja.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Macjohn Nwaobiala, the minister reiterated the Federal Government's commitment to resolving the ongoing strike.

"The Federal Government is very concerned about the state of public tertiary institutions in the country. The Federal Government is really worried about the ongoing strike of ASUU and the strike would be resolved in a few months," Wike said.

In his paper presentation titled, 'Turbulent and Testing Times for Global Higher Education: Lessons for Nigeria', Professor John Daniel said "online teaching and learning is now part of the future of most universities. Nigeria should be very good at this because without embarrassing you by pressing the point, I note that your country, through 419 scams, is a world leader in the use of the internet for less desirable purposes."

According to him, higher education all over the world is facing lot of challenges that included youth unemployment and the current changes in the university system.

"These are indeed turbulent times, not only for United States of America but also for much of higher education globally," he said.

In his goodwill message, a former Executive Secretary of NUC, Professor Jubril Munzali, noted that the education sector has been underfunded for 21 years, with the significant increase in the funding of tertiary institutions being done over time, through the struggle of ASUU.

He blamed the Federal Government for the lingering crisis rocking the nation's university system.

According to him, it is high time the Federal Government listened to its agencies and allow NUC perform its statutory role and fund universities based on the advice of its agencies like NUC.

"Successive administrations in the country never paid adequate attention to university education," Munzali said.
